The Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, has confirmed that a staff member of the Corozal Community Hospital has been arrested and will be charged within the next few days for stealing money.
According to Chester, the Corozal Community Hospital employee who was being investigated is one Adan Orosco, better known to Belizeans by his DJ name “DJ Callie”.
Orosco was arrested after the Commissioner of Police received a letter of complaint earlier this week along with a number of accounting documents as proof from the Minister of Health, Hon. Michel Chebat, showing that Orosco who was the Assistant Manager of the Corozal Polyclinic, located at the Corozal Community Hospital, was involved in the theft of some money over a certain period of time.
The documents showed that Orosco was paying himself extra money every month from May 2019 all the way up to his last payment before his work contract was terminated which was in October 2020.
During the period mentioned above, he paid himself an extra total of $65,000.
The Commissioner of Police claims that a senior investigator is investigating the matter alongside the Financial Intelligence Unit and charges for Money Laundering are expected to be laid within the next few days.
Money Laundering is defined as a where a person obtains money or other valuables through the commission of a crime.
